The Encounters were a site-specific installation and interactive live performance placed in the empty shops and disused spaces of Harlow, Essex. It was created, devised and performed entirely by local residents and facilitated by makeAMPLIFY.
The performance was presented as a tour with digital projections and audio guide comprised of instructions and participants’ stories as a response to the shops and surrounding local area. Through the audio guide, the audience were invited to experience both the live and audio-visual installations in the interior world of the shops, the wider area and the hidden stories found within by interacting directly with both the spaces and people populating them.
The Encounters were part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad in Essex as part of their ‘Sparks Will Fly Festival,’ the weekend of 26 and 27 May, 2012.
Commissioned by DanceDigital as part of their Immerse Platform, Encounters has just received funding from the Grants for the Arts through Arts Council.
