Adugna Dance Theatre – Based in Addis Ababa, Adugna is a professional contemporary dance company consisting of dancers who at one time were homeless on the streets. The company not only create, tour and perform their own work, they lead workshops and teach inclusive dance and theatre projects for people with disabilities. In a country where the stigma against disability is very high, the work they do is inspirational.
Jennifer had the opportunity to spend a week working with the company in 2009. Together they explored choreographic concepts, performance skills and that staple Ethiopian dish – Injera!
