ironINC in Africa
For the past 4 years Jennifer Irons of ironINC has facilitated, developed and delivered various professional and arts for social development projects across Africa and the South Pacific. In the belief that the arts can contribute to international development, she has endeavoured to find new and sustainable projects linking diverse communities through dialogue and creative practice. The projects are developed with the local community and in partnership with local professional and not for profit organizations. Previous projects have included working with the HEALS Project with ex-child soldiers in Northern Uganda, Adugna Community Dance Theatre working with professional dancers and dancers with disabilities in Ethiopia, and Sauti Afrika working with street kids in Nairobi.
For 2012, Jennifer has been invited to work with Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) in Namibia. OYO aims to use working through the arts with young people to create social awareness and mitigate the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic and other social problems. OYO’s vision is to develop a society in which there is broad access to information and the arts. Jennifer is planning to work with OYO in spring of 2012.
